MARK V DENTON
Mark V Denton is old enough to see through the spin, but young enough to believe it’s not too late for change. This blog is a place to question the basics, debate radical ideas, and prepare for action.
The state of things
- We are facing a climate catastrophe. Over a year ago, scientists were clear, they said act now or it will be too late.
- We have extreme wealth inequality. Concentrated power is drowning out the voice of reason.
- The government does not represent us. In the last election only 1 in 5 voted Labour.
- Deregulation led to the Grenfell tower disaster.
- Privatisation has led to untreated sewage in our seas and waterways.
- Financialization led to the near global collapse of the financial system.
Everywhere you look, concentrated, unearned, undemocratic, extreme power is driving us to destruction.
a better future
What we need to do
Tap into the mechanisms exercising power and redirect them to fulfil the people’s needs. We can use time-based, targeted boycotts to hack capitalism. Boycotts have been proven to work and if we’ve learnt anything from the pandemic it’s that capitalism is so focussed on short term gain it’s vulnerable to boycott shock.
Anyone can join in
Read this blog, start debating, start acting, “…those engaging a threshold of 3.5% of the population have never failed to bring about change”.
There’s over three times that threshold aged between 15-24 alone in the UK. So, if you are a young adult and want a better future, it’s yours to take.
There’s over two and half times that threshold of trade union members. If you are in a union and want a better future, it’s yours to take.
There’s estimated to be over five times that threshold in absolute poverty in the UK today. That’s an incredible and horrifying number, but, if you are living in poverty today, a better future is yours to take.
This is a stand, by the ordinary, for the ordinary. For human decency, for humanity, our human rights, and democracy.
It’s our time now.
